Soothe All Spray – For Delicate Skin
Which concoction of oils is gentle enough for newborn baby skin and is a good all round skin soother? Lavender and Frankincense of course. doTERRA essential oils provide a natural and potent, yet safe natural skin care option (that you can easily create yourself) for your whole family including baby and you!
Our family recently had the pleasure of welcoming another little boy into our tribe. No, I have not gone again; four lovely boys are definitely enough, thank you very much universe! My darling sister in law has been blessed with a delightful little boy 10 weeks ago. I know you’re all thinking ‘I bet she gave them oils’ and ‘another boy’ hehe. Well you’re right, I did give her something from my essential oils stash (and other cute bits and bobs of course)
I decided to make up a little concoction that I knew would be perfectly gentle enough for bub’s and mum’s delicate skin, which included Lavender and Frankincense.
What do you need?
- Lavender essential oil, useful for it’s antibacterial, anti fungal and antimicrobial properties. Lavender also has analgesic properties so can be calming physical and emotionally just what mum and bub could use in these early days and lets face it, anything soothing and calming is helpful for everyone, all the time hehe.
- Frankincense essential oil, useful for it’s anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and immune boosting properties. The earthy aroma of Frankincense can also help soothe irritability and restlessness.
- 60ml glass spray bottle and fractionated coconut oil.
How do you make it?
Place 10 drops Lavender essential oil and 10 drops Frankincense essential oil in the glass spray bottle. Then, fill the bottle with Fractionated Coconut Oil. Simply give the bottle a quick little shake before each use.
Why would you need or use this spray?
It’s perfect to soothe delicate or sensitive skin when it seems to be irritated…e.g. a newborn’s nappy area; wipe the area with simply water and a cloth and spray after every change. You don’t have to reserve this spray just for your bub’s bottom, you can use this on other areas of their body also that may be irritated and require soothing. It can also be useful to massage over an upset tummy or to simply massage and soothe an upset baby.
Before you go spraying your baby down with this all day long, I will let you know that the oils are absorbed into the cells of our body in approximately 1 minute and our body will digest and use the oils in 2-3 hours so realistically that’s how often the oils could be useful for a massage. However, if your baby’s nappy area is in need of some protection then I would spray the oils on after every change while the area is irritated.
If it’s safe enough for a baby’s skin then it’s definitely safe enough for adults. My sister in law was using it on her post birth scar and reported that the area felt soothed and protected.
As babies grow past the 6 month mark and begin to move around more, perhaps requiring extra protection and soothing, the Owie blend is a good one to have on hand as the inclusion of Melaleuca (Tea Tree) increases protection against bacteria and other irritants and can speed up the process.
Does this divinely natural combination sound like something you would like to make and use in your home? ‘Yep!’ Then let’s chat some more about natural health care for your family, send me an email info@vitalityoils.com.au
