Quick. Nourishing & Yummy – Chia Seed Pudding
You may realise there is a certain theme running for me…my food and wellness protocols need to be quick, simple and of course, effective if I’m going to stick to them. This Chia Seed Pudding is one of those quick recipes that I know will fill us all up and it’s so damn yummy and so good for us. All you need is what I consider to be pantry staples, including essential oils of course for those extra health benefits, and 5 minutes of your precious time.
I’m a busy mumma with four kiddies and I’m running my own business BUT my family’s health and wellness is important to me and just because I’m busy I refuse to allow that to be an excuse to not eat well and be well.
Chia seeds provide us with loads of energy, they’re high in Omega 3’s and protein so they’re great for our skin, digestive health, heart health and are satisfying. I get asked for this recipe a lot, so here it is:
What you need
Serves 1 if you are hungry or serves 2 for a snack.
- 3 tablespoons Chia Seeds
- 1/1/2 cups of milk of your choice – I use Almond Milk
- Dash of your choice of sweetener – sometimes I use maple syrup, sometimes none at all
ESSENTIAL OILS – for flavouring and health benefits. You can get them HERE
– We like 4 drops Wild Orange + 2 drops Cinnamon, topped with berries, but you can experiment with your own flavour preferences.
Make
Measure and add your milk to a glass jar. You can re purpose any old jar for this.
Add essential oils and sweetener if using, to the jar. Close the lid and give it all a quick shake.
Now, here’s where you get to let loose. Add chia seeds to the jar, close the lid, hold that jar nice and tight and shake it like you mean it for about 30 seconds to a minute.
I leave the jar to sit on the bench for a moment because the chia seeds will settle at the bottom while they are initially absorbing the liquid.
When you see the seeds starting to settle, vigorously shake the jar again for about 5 seconds. Do this a couple more times and then pop the jar in the fridge to set.
I usually give the jar a couple more shakes over the next 20 mins or so.
Leave it to set for a few hours or overnight, I prefer to leave it overnight.
TOPPINGS: you can top your pudding with whatever you like…muesli, fruit, dust with cacao powder or ground cinnamon or coconut flakes.
Depending on the milk you use, you may find that you like to add more Chia Seeds or less Chia Seeds the next time you make it up.
Make this once and you’ll see just how easy it is. No excuse not to prepare something nourishing to fuel and fill you up.
It’s a winner at our place! Enjoy.
