My Lavender Love
I’ll be honest, as a teenager (many years ago) it was not love at first smell for Lavender essential oil and I and people who know me won’t believe this because it is often the first oil that I take out for people to try. These days Lavender is a bit of a hero in our home thanks to four lively boys, and it wasn’t until I had experienced the quality and purity of doTERRA’s Lavender that I fell in love with this sweet smelling oil and all of its health benefits.
A word on quality….There is no governing body for essential oils which may be why the smell of Lavender essential oil had me feeling ill in the past, so please be sure to choose an oil company which stands behind their purity claims. You need to be sure that there are no fillers, synthetics/perfumes or pesticides etc. If a bottle of essential oil that would typically be a food cannot claim that it is safe enough to ingest then you should reconsider using that essential oil, I certainly would.
You’ll often find one of my boys (or me) applying lavender to their many occasional skin irritations from their rough and tumble, outdoor activities. Lavender is also especially helpful at this time of the year as the evenings become longer and children (and adults) are outside playing at dusk when they are susceptible to insect bites. Seasonal threats associated with Spring can also receive some Lavender Lovin, simply rub a drop over the nasal/affected area or by placing a drop in a shot glass of water and drinking it.
For the very young and old who experience occasional eye discomfort, try rubbing a drop of Lavender around the eye with a carrier oil for little ones and neat for adults (I do). Wipe the oil through the brow bone and around the eye to just over the cheek bone. There is no need to get too close to the eye as the oils will be absorbed into the cells around the eye area.
Lavender is a wonderful natural reliever of minor or occasional pain like ear discomfort, head and neck tension and to help your little ones with occasional stomach upset. For any of these issues you can simply place 1-2 drops of essential oil in a carrier oil and massage over the area of concern.
We love using Lavender essential oil in the evening for it’s calming and relaxing qualities. Just by adding a few drops of this essential oil to bath water, on the bottoms of feet, on bed linen and/or in a diffuser can help promote a restful night sleep. The calming qualities of Lavender can also be utilised during the day for times when we are feeling stressed or anxious by simply inhale directly from the bottle or placing a drop of oil into the palms of your hand, cupping your hands over your face and inhaling deeply! Essential oils actually have a physical impact on our brain when we inhale those aromatic compounds…a natural stress reliever, yes please!
Adding a drop of Lavender to your mascara it will help with hygiene and for that reason extend the life of your mascara. It can also help with occasional eye irritation and it will of course smell lovely.
So, keep your Lavender essential oil bottle handy for all those stressful, booboo situations that catch us by surprise and you will have everyone around you feeling soothed, relaxed, dreamy and smelling so good…perfect!
