How to Make Low Tox Face And Body Serum
Making your own natural face and body oil is a great way to escape harmful product ingredients.
The beauty industry has a long history of questionable practises and eyebrow-raising product additives. Just like me, this has prompted many health-conscious people to seek out low tox face and body serums.
And since we use face and body products daily to keep our skin healthy and supple, it’s important to know exactly what we are rubbing all over ourselves. In many cases, mass-produced, factory-made products are full of nasty synthetic chemicals.
These chemicals, such as parabens, are deemed so harmful that some countries have banned their use. And the chemicals are absorbed into your blood stream pretty quickly.
Toxic ingredients in skincare products may be responsible for allergies, hormone imbalances, cancers, asthma, autism and reproductive issues, to name a few.
But don’t despair, I have some good news for you!
It’s easy to make low tox face and body serums at home.
The basics for making your own healthy skincare serum.
When making your own natural skincare, you’ll need a carrier oil that acts as a base in which to add your scents. Typically, oils such as jojoba and almond are used because they are generally good for all skin types but there are many others that you can mix and match with these basics.
Jojoba oil is actually a liquid wax and it’s chemical structure is similar to the protective wax created by our skin. So it penetrates our skin well and is able to ‘carry’ other important nutrients deeper into the layers of your skin.
Rosehip oil is rich in essential fatty acids. It’s perfect for ageing skin because of its firming properties.
Olive oil, yes, the stuff in your kitchen is great for dry skin. And affordable too!
Avocado oil is another oil that you may have in your pantry. Just like the fruit, it’s chock-full of omega 3 fatty acids, which makes it a great all-purpose face and body moisturiser.
Apricot kernel oil is another good one for dry, ageing and sensitive skin. It’s high is oleic acid (another fatty acid) and it penetrates the skin quickly.
Now that your oil is sorted, grab a clean, 50ml glass pump bottle and your favourite doTERRA essential oils.
