Tiny Tummy Troubles
doTERRA Wild Orange and Lavender essential oils can gently and naturally help your baby with stomach pain. New and seasoned mums alike (including myself) have experienced despair when our baby seems upset and presents with ‘colic’ like symptoms. Your baby may seem like they are in pain because they are irritable and unsettled, and you are thinking ‘maybe she has a tummy pain or wind, or maybe he needs to burp, or is she constipated?’ Ellen our ‘Baby Buff’ explains how you may be able to help your baby with a tummy rub, some essential oils and of course a cuddle….
When my children were newborn, I would obsess over their little tummies and whether or not everything was “moving” at the right pace. I would freak out over too many, or too little number 2’s and if there was excessive gas. It’s so hard with babies to tell exactly what is wrong if they seem out of sorts and I spent a lot of time second guessing myself and wondering whether I was doing something wrong, or if there was a problem with my breastmilk.
My eldest once went 8 days without a poo. I read that this is normal for breastfed babies, or in fact there is no “normal” for breastfed babies, but I know that he was uncomfortable when things weren’t moving along, and much happier after they had.
Luckily by the time my second child came along I had some natural tools in my kit – doTERRA’s essential oils. I had read about the purity of these oils and which ones were gentle enough for small babies.
I made up a roller-ball blend of lavender and wild orange (10 drops each), and filled the 10ml bottle with fractionated coconut oil. I kept the blend at the changing table and whenever I felt that my son was gassy, or a bit constipated, I rolled it over his tummy and gave him a little clockwise massage.
He loved the massage, and quite often the combination of massage and oils led to an instant release of gas. I certainly felt that this was offering him some comfort and he never went as long as 8 days! As a bonus, Lavender is relaxing and promotes a restful sleep, and has been used and is known to help with colic.
What I love most about doTERRA is the confidence it has given me to help my family. Unlike with over the counter medications I know that if I apply them safely (diluted and only ever in small amounts) there will be no dangerous side effects, and it is a toxin-free, natural solution. Did I mention that this blend smells amazing too! P.S. don’t forget to finish with a cuddle, Ellen x
Hi im looking into using doterra for my colicky baby. Your post says u made a roller ball of 10 drops each lavender and orange blossom. Everything ive read for ijsfants says not to apply topically or if u do only on the fret snd dilute 1tsp carrier oil to 1 drop EO. Your mixture was obviously stronger than this…at what age did u start applying to your son in stronger doses like this? Any other info would be great
My LO is 6 weeks
Thank u
