DIY Au Naturel Skin Care & Hygiene
You can take care of your hygiene and skin care routines naturally using doTERRA essential oils and a few pantry staples. It is really easy to DIY chemical free recipes to help detox your whole family’s skin care and hygiene regime.
Your skin is the largest organ in your body and what you put on your skin is absorbed into your body! I figure if you’re prepared to eat something then it should be safe enough to go on your skin, provided we’re talking about whole/real foods here! If you’re looking to avoid and eliminate synthetic ingredients and nasty chemicals that are found in many off-the-shelf products then my DIY natural skin care routine might work for you.
Face
The cleanser, toner, serum and face moisturiser that I use are all from the doTERRA Verage range. This range of skin care is created using the natural power of essential oils and it helps my skin look and feel good. The overall result using the Verage skin care range for me is that my skin feels clean, soothed and hydrated.
Eye Make Up Remover
Mascara is my favourite make up product to use daily and regular make up remover is one product that we all need to ditch pronto! You can also use this natural remover all over your face to remove stubborn makeup before cleansing.
Mix up the following ingredients and store in a glass bottle ready to use with a cotton pad.
Ingredients:
10ml Jojoba oil
10ml Witch Hazel
5 drops doTERRA Frankincense essential oil
5 drops doTERRA Lavender essential oil
Easy-Effective Face Scrub
This scrub is super easy to throw together and you probably already have the ingredients in your cupboard! It might sound a bit weird and icky but my skin always feels so smooth and soft after using this scrub…go on give it a try!
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon bicarbonate soda
½ a tablespoon of raw honey
1 drop of Lavender essential oil
1 drop of Frankincense essential oil
Mix all the ingredients until well blended and it resembles a paste. If it is cold at your place blending may be slightly more difficult but it will come together. Apply a warm face cloth (that you’ve run under hot water, be cautious with the temperature) to your face for about one minute to help open up your pores. Then gently use the scrub by rubbing into your face using small circular motions. Massage your skin for three minutes or a little longer if you can and then simply rinse off the scrub with warm water. I like to use doTERRA’s Verage toner spray, serum and face moisturiser to finish off this process.
NOTE: this scrub can be very sticky once massaged into the face so ensure your hair and all the little strands are well tied back off your face.
Activated Charcoal Mask
In the name of doing things naturally I recently got my hands on some activated charcoal after I had heard positive reviews about this toxin magnet. Yes, that’s right, charcoal on your face! We have become used to the idea of mud and clay on our faces so you’ve now go to give this a go. Metals, chemicals and toxins are attracted to activated charcoal like a magnet which we then remove by washing the mask off.
This all natural mask will kill bacteria and help clear up acne, pimples and dreaded blackheads!
Ingredients:
1 teaspoon activated charcoal
1 teaspoon aloe vera juice or gel
½ to 1 teaspoon water depending of if you used aloe vera juice or gel
5 drops doTERRA Melaleuca essential oil
1 pinch sea salt
Small bowl or container (do not use metal utensils)
Mix all the ingredients together, then apply an even layer all over you face. Allow the mask to dry (approximately 10 minutes) and then wash it off with warm water. Give your skin a weekly treat with this mask.
NOTE: Activated charcoal can be very messy. I opened the lid and the charcoal kind of floated out of the container. You’ll be fine as long as you are prepared by having everything you need right next to you, especially dark coloured towels to catch any spills and do not wear white!
