After–Sun Spray
Ellen shares the dreaded feeling of realising that your cherub has spent a little too long in the sun with not enough sun protection. I have to be honest, I have had this experience and I too have a ‘white, white, white’ child. Thanks Ellen for going here and being honest with us all and thank you doTERRA for your Lavender, Peppermint and Frankincense essential oils. Over to you Ellen…
Okay, I am a bad mum. I feel dreadful. I dropped the ball, and after a lovely day in the sun, my little one’s skin looked red and irritated. Lavender, Peppermint and Frankincense essential oils make a lovely skin soothing combination for sun irritated skin (that I should never have needed to blend!).
My one year old has my skin: white, white, white. Exactly the type of skin that needs extra protection from the elements. Unfortunately we are currently engaged in a daily battle, (a battle that I’m sure most toddler mums will recognise?) about wearing hats – I put it on, he pulls it off, repeat, repeat, repeat until he forgets and gets distracted. Sometimes I think I have won, but then I get distracted and I don’t realise that he has taken his hat off again.
Anyway, yesterday was one of those days when he succeeded in having the final say in removing his hat. It was overcast, and I was not immediately aware of the danger. Long story short – his precious little face is pink and I feel terrible. (My shoulders were pink too – karma?)
Once again, doTERRA oils came to the rescue! If you have this unfortunate experience and need to help ease this kind of discomfort for someone:
Make Up the oil blend in a little glass bottle (about 120 ml or 4 oz) with:
20 drops lavender – to soothe and assist with discomfort;
20 drops peppermint – for a cooling sensation; and
20 drops frankincense – a super important addition for cellular renewal and inflammation which is exactly what our skin needed.
Fill the bottle with fractionated coconut oil to dilute.
Shake the bottle before each use to distribute the oils.
I used this blend by spraying some on my hands and gently rubbed it into his face (avoiding the eyes). I have been repeating this several times a day and I have also been rubbing the blend on my shoulders.
Overnight his skin looks less irritated and he seems perfectly happy. I have noticed that the sting has gone from my skin and the redness is fading with every application. I will continue to use this blend for a few more days and then I hope never to need it again!
For my own guilt and emotional discomfort I put a few drops of doTERRA’s new forgive blend (from the Emotional Aromatherapy kit) into my palm and inhaled deeply. You can actually purchase these oils singularly now, yey. They have been blended to perfection and smell perfectly divine which assists with evoking positive feelings. The woody and herby smells helped me to relax and let go of some of the guilt and anger I was feeling towards myself. I feel like I let my son down (mother guilt on top of the usual mother guilt), but I didn’t do it on purpose, and I have learned a big lesson. It doesn’t do anyone any good to dwell on my mistake.
It is nice to know that there is something natural to soothe your family’s skin, but I hope you never need to use this blend for your children like I did! Ellen x
